I'm Back

After a few days where other commitments kept me from poker, I am back to blogging and playing again!  This weekend I only played in 15 or so games or tournaments total so I am feeling a little out of the poker world.  This marks my return, however, and I'm sure you will see me at the tables under jakecartier3!!

  2. a pot will split anytime that you and your opponent both have the best 5 cards. so for example with the JQ against JT, a jack made the best hand that could be possible with the board the way it was. for example, if the board was: 8 9 10 Q 4, you would both have a straight, 8 to queen, with the river 4 not mattering. you have to remember that since a hand like a straight is 5 cards, the kicker is irrelevant as it is not part of your best possible hand. in the J5 vs J6 example, it is conceivable that neither of you hit anything in the community cards and the 6 kicker won the pot for him. If the board was to look like: A K 4 10 3, then his best 5 cards would include his 6, which would beat your 5. The same thing would happen if he had paired his 6 or even his J with the 6 kicker.
There is no special rule about being on a blind/the button and winning. Sometimes it sucks but it't important to remember that only the best 5 card hand matters!!
    Hope that helps!
